Does The Houston Center for Valued Living accept insurance?

Houston Center for Valued Living is an out of network provider (this means that we don’t accept insurance). If you have out-of-network benefits it is possible that your insurance company may reimburse you for a percentage of the session fee, however the full session fee payment is required at the time of the session. We provide “super-bills” (forms used by insurance for billing) for you to submit to your insurance company. Of note, when the insurance companies receive these super-bills (or any documentation they require from a therapist), we must provide a diagnosis. This diagnosis goes on your medical record file. Many people are perfectly okay with this! However if you are not, then paying out of pocket is the only way to maintain your privacy from your insurance company.

If you want to find out about your benefits, call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and ask to speak to someone about out-of-network mental health benefits. They’ll talk to you about your deductible and coverage. If you want more information on how to do this, contact us at info@hcfvl.com

Why might someone choose not to use their insurance or choose not to submit a superbill to their insurance company?

Opting not to use insurance for mental health treatment can offer several benefits. Firstly, it ensures increased privacy and confidentiality, as insurance claims may involve sharing sensitive information about your mental health with third parties.  Furthermore, avoiding insurance may prevent the creation of a mental health record that could impact future insurability prospects. This is particularly noteworthy because life insurance or short-term disability companies may request mental health records from previous years when assessing eligibility for their insurance plans, making the decision to keep such records private an important consideration for long-term financial planning and personal well-being. Overall, foregoing insurance for mental health treatment grants individuals greater autonomy and privacy in managing their mental health journey.

What are my payment options for therapy?

We accept flexible health spending account cards, cash, check, and all major credit cards.
