I’m Christina, though most people call me Nina. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Houston who specializes in behavioral counseling for children, adolescents, and young adults. I work with families who care deeply about their child’s social-emotional development, healthy family dynamics, and long-term well-being. My practice includes supporting young children (ages 2–10) with tantrums, aggression, non-compliance, and emotional dysregulation, as well as guiding parents who are seeking behavioral parent training, early childhood support, or help navigating the challenges of balancing work, relationships, and parenting. I also work with older adolescents and young adults during major life transitions when anxiety, perfectionism, or new responsibilities feel overwhelming. Many of the families I work with want evidence-based strategies to support their child’s development at home, in school, and in social settings and that’s what I am here to provide.
My Approach
My therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based models. With young children and their parents, I utilize Behavioral Parent Training, which teaches parents skills to reduce disruptive behaviors such as tantrums, aggression, and non-compliance, while increasing cooperation and emotional regulation—leading to meaningful improvements in daily routines, relationships, and school performance. With older adolescents and young adults, I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help them understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and develop skills for managing anxiety, improving mood, setting boundaries, and taking on the responsibilities of emerging adulthood.
Training
I earned my Master’s in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston–Clear Lake. During my training I worked at UHCL’s Psychological Services Center and Texas Children’s Center for Children & Women, where I saw children ages 3–13 for behavioral and school-related concerns, and adolescents and adults for mood, anxiety, and life stressors. After graduating, I joined the UTHealth Center for Neurobehavioral Research on Addiction, where I continue to work with individuals navigating mood disorders, anxiety, and co-occurring behavioral health challenges. Across all ages, my goal is to provide a supportive, structured, and collaborative space where clients and families feel equipped, confident, and connected.
“Nina has a fantastic combination of good personality fit as well as skill level. I feel like she’s really really good about holding space but also keeping us on target during the session, even though I’m coming in for behavioral parent training, it’s very emotional as a parent with a “hard kid”. She’s so good about keeping me on target during the hour to make sure that we cover topics while also giving me space to emotionally process and not rush it. I know not all helpful therapy is supposed to feel good, in fact usually it’s very uncomfortable but it’s been a really good balance of letting me feel the hard stuff while also making me feel really supported and not alone. “
